Fr.
Gerald Beirne is the son of the late Patrick and the late Mabel (Money)
Beirne. He has two brothers, Lawrence and Fr. Robert Beirne.
Born and brought up in Pawtucket, he was a parishioner of St. Leo's
Parish and graduated from Our Lady of Providence High School Seminary
in 1954. Fr. Beirne attended St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester, New
York and was ordained a priest on June 9, 1962.
He served as assistant pastor at St. Mary Parish in Carolina, the Cathedral
of SS. Peter & Paul and St. Mark Parish in Cranston. Fr. Beirne
lived in residence at St. Augustine Parish in Providence while serving
as Chaplain of RI Hospital and Roger William Hospital and was Pastor
of St. Rita Parish in Warwick before becoming Pastor of our parish in
January of 1991.
Fr. Beirne served as Pastor of St. Philip's for 16 years and retired
as Pastor Emeritus on February 12, 2007.
