RCIA:
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The RCIA is the process by which adults (age 18+) prepare for
entrance into the Catholic Church. The RCIA is a re-establishment
of the initiation method used by the Church in the first few centuries.
Then a person who wanted to become a Christian was required to
follow the example of Christians in the community and show that
he or she could live that way before being baptized.
Today the RCIA uses scripture, prayer, and sharing to help new
members of the community come to a realization of their relationship
with God and with one another. This process, which is only part
of a lifelong journey from birth to final union with God, culminates
each year with the reception of the sacraments of initiation at
the Easter Vigil. (Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation)
St. Philip's RCIA is open to all over the age of 18 who wish to
join the Catholic Church and to those Catholics who have never
been confirmed or received their firs communion.
