If
you cannot read at your assigned Mass,
it is important to call another Lector to sub for you
or call your partner to request he/she do all the readings.
Thank
you for your service.

LECTOR NOTES
* Masses
at which there is no permanent Deacon. One lector carries the Book
of the Gospels in single-file procession immediately in front of
the celebrant. Go directly to the altar and place the book on the corporal.
Children's liturgy? Rejoin the celebrant, etc. at the foot of the altar.
No children's liturgy? Go directly to your front pew seat.
* The
Book of the Gospels should be carried in a prominent manner in
the processional to signify the role of the Gospel in the liturgical
celebration.
*Pause
at the end of the Old Testament first reading if you are remaining in
the pulpit to read the response Psalm. Sing-and-read? Take your cue
from the start of the music. Depart the pulpit after the final sung
response. Second reader then moves to the pulpit.
*The
second reader should close the Lectionary following the reading and
place it on the under shelf, leaving the amboe clear for the celebrant
to place the Book of the Gospels.
*The
second reader should remain in the pew until the completion of the Profession
of Faith..."and the life of the world to come. Amen". Then
proceed to the pulpit for the Prayer of the Faithful. The "script"
for all readings are set out in the Sacristy for your review/rehearsal/refresher
prior to Mass. Please distinguish who is being remembered at the Mass
(memorial) and others recently deceased or ill who will be mentioned
.
* Please
read slowly and distinctively. Move the Lectionary up to the top of
the "vee" and try to lift your head and eyes when introducing
the readings, at the conclusion and at the end of each intercession
in the Prayer of the Faithful. Don't allow your voice to drop at "The
Word of the Lord", "We Pray to the Lord", etc.
* Do
not retrieve any books at the end of Mass. The Book of the Gospels
and the Lectionary remain in the pulpit. Move to the foot of the Altar,
bookend the celebrant and process out. You should take a Missalette
with you to sing the recessional hymn.

If you anticipate a change in your availability during the next cycle
please advise.
